In 2019 Oakstead cut, dug, and removed about 25 tons of invasive plants, trees (European Hawthorn), and shrubs; mostly broom, Himalayan blackberry, and thistle.
Richard has been an active member in the Northern Invasive Plant Council of BC, as well as the Southern Interior Invasive Plant council between 1997 and 2013.
