This is different from a forest inventory in that trees are considered as individuals instead of stands. It is useful for public or private land such as municipalities, utility corridors, schools and universities, cemeteries, golf courses, or estates where there are many trees. Goals of an inventory can vary widely depending on the need, but commonly include:
- A tally of trees & shrubs (or other features) – often a numbering of trees.
- Attributes – species, quality, and characteristics of the trees & shrubs (i.e. diameter, condition)
- Level 1 tree risk assessment
- Report
- Management Plan (pruning or other maintenance needs)
